Winter Talk- Victorian Vulnerability: How was mental health treated in local Workhouses?

A talk by Rebecca Hale (Gressenhall Education Officer) What were Victorian attitudes to mental health? What was their response in state institutions, such as Workhouses? This talk will predominately use stories from Gressenhall (Mitford and Launditch Union) Workhouse to look at how a local workhouse treated its vulnerable inmates, suffering from mental health. It will also reflect on the stories of Harriet Kettle, from Dereham and Lorina Bulwer, from Great Yarmouth.
