A Portrait of the Artist: J.M.W. Turner in East Anglia by Dr. Richard Hoggett

Examing a series of watercolours J. M.W Turner made of sites along the East Anglian coast in the 1820s, including views of Aldeburgh, Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth and Happisburgh.These images tell us a great deal about East Anglia’s dynamic coastal landscape and illustrate the changing artistic fashions of the early 19th century.

Our ST*ART Junior Masterclasses are designed for children aged 7 – 12 years old and aim to develop their confidence and creativity through a day of fun activities inspired by the castle’s collections. This masterclass is inspired by this summer’s exhibition 'The Paston Treasure: Riches and Rarities of the Known World', in it children will use different senses to explore the exhibition and create a piece of art work to take home.
