Water Ways: Art & Nature On the Broads

Water Ways: Art and Nature on the Broads explores the landscape and natural habitats of the Broadland environment through the eyes of artists working in the region, mainly in the C19th and early C20th. The exhibition celebrates the extraordinary natural environment of the Broads that makes the area such a rich source of inspiration, relaxation and enjoyment for artists, naturalists and holiday-makers alike. At the heart of the exhibition is work from the Norfolk Museum Service collections of some of the most renowned Broadland painters from the 19th and early 20th centuries: Charles Harmony Harrison, Stephen Batchelder and Arthur Patterson. And works by contemporary artists reveal how this landscape continues to be a rich source of inspiration. Loans from the Museum of the Broads, Norfolk Heritage Centre (including photographs by PH Emerson and John Payne Jennings) and private collections, as well as natural history and archive sound recordings, add to the story of this unique landscape and its importance to the region as a place for both recreation and conservation.

Spiders & Their Webs of Flies - Water Ways' Wild Weekends!

Tour the Norfolk broads through this extraordinary exhibition of paintings, bird song, tracks, trails and animal exhibits. Each month view different ‘Special Specimens’ and find out about Norfolk’s hidden habitats. Forage in a ‘barrel of bugs’ and ‘leaf through leaf litter’ to collect fun-filled facts about Norfolk’s natural history heroes in a series of weekend family workshops. Experience life through the many eyes of Norfolk’s spiders. Observe the domesticated House Spider and find out more about the water dwelling Raft spider. Dispel some spider myths and make friends with these hairy legged arachnids by getting close to a real one.
