Christmas Doll Making Workshop

On this one day workshop you will learn how to make a vintage inspired felt doll or Christmas tree fairy. You will learn various techniques including how to inset a wire armature and different methods of creating faces and hair. This course is suitable for beginners or those with a little experience, with all materials provided, although participants can bring their own fabrics to use. You will learn how to stuff and join the dolls with hand stitching, make and skirt and bodice, and create your doll’s face. Course tutor Sara Sheriff has been making dolls for 18 years, and has exhibited at various fairs around the country including the Selvedge Fair, Country Living, and The Contemporary Craft Fair in Devon.

Apple Tree Pruning with Bob Lever

On this one-day workshop you will gain an introduction to the theory behind pruning apple trees, and the selection and correct use of pruning tools. The majority of the day will be spent in the Workhouse orchard, where you will gain practical experience at pruning mature apple trees. This workshop will mostly take place outside, regardless of weather. Bob Lever has been involved with orchard management for over 30 years and has been teaching orchard skills for over 20 years. Participants will need to bring warm and waterproof clothing and suitable footwear for wearing in long grass, plus a pair of strong working gloves for your own use. All other tools and safety equipment will be provided. All refreshments including lunch will be provided.
