The Norwich Textile Trail

Meet at Strangers’ Hall and join Cathy Terry, Curator of Social History Museum to look at some of the replica Norwich textiles, then take a guided leisurely stroll with Rod Spokes, a Blue Badge Guide, around the city to discover some of the historical highlights of Norwich’s textile industry. Continue to Bridewell Museum where you can view the only working Norwich Jacquard loom.

The Jacquard Loom – A 19th Century Computer

Bridewell Museum is home to the recently restored Jacquard loom which played such an important role in the city’s weaving industry. Visitors will be able to see the forerunner of today’s digital computer in full working action as specially trained weavers demonstrate how it is used to produce the famous Norfolk cloth.
